Data BACKUP & RECOVERY

Secure your company against any data loss

The question is not whether an incident will occur — but when. We design backup and recovery architectures tailored to your sector, infrastructure and regulatory obligations — so that you are ready, whatever happens.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about data backup and recovery

What is the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

Backup involves copying your data at regular intervals so that it can be restored in the event of loss. Disaster recovery (DR) goes further: it is a global plan that covers not only data restoration, but also system restart, operational continuity and communications in the event of a major incident. The two are complementary and necessary.

What are RPO and RTO and why are they important?

RPO (Recovery Point Objective) defines the maximum amount of data you can afford to lose — for example, one hour of transactions. RTO (Recovery Time Objective) defines the maximum acceptable time before your systems are operational again. These two parameters determine the frequency of your backups and the sizing of your recovery plan.

Does Microsoft 365 automatically back up my data?

No — at least not sufficiently for professional use. Microsoft 365 offers a recycle bin and limited version history, but no long-term backup. In the event of accidental deletion beyond the retention period, ransomware or an administration error, your data can be permanently lost without a dedicated backup solution.

Are my backups actually tested?

At 1SWISS1, yes — systematically. We schedule regular restoration tests and simulate disaster scenarios to verify that your backups are intact and recoverable. An untested backup guarantees nothing: we take this risk seriously.

Where are my backups stored?

Depending on your configuration, your backups are stored in certified data centres in Switzerland or Europe, and/or on your local infrastructure. We prioritise Swiss hosting for clients subject to the nFADP or specific sector requirements — FINMA, healthcare, legal.

What happens in the event of a ransomware attack?

Our solution includes behavioural detection of ransomware — as soon as abnormal encryption is detected, an alert is triggered and automatic actions are initiated. Thanks to granular versioning and immutable backups, we can restore your systems to a state prior to the infection, minimising data loss and downtime.

Is the backup solution compliant with the Swiss nFADP?

Yes. All our backup solutions comply with the nFADP (new Federal Act on Data Protection) and European GDPR — with AES-256 encryption, strict access control, audit logs and hosting in Switzerland or Europe on request.
